The purpose of this note is to give you a brief update of some activities that have taken place since.

As you are aware, the main purpose of this meeting was to revive the Chennai Chapter of the Alumni Association. The Chennai Chapter has been, for long, one of the most active and vibrant Chapters. Somewhere along the line it had become dormant. You may also recall that, Mr AR Doss, spoke eloquently about the benefit we could all, at a personal level, derive from a active and vibrant Chapter.

At this meeting, our Principal nominated Mr. Vasagam,, R Ravindran and L H Arun Kumar, as Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Secretary respectively.

Subsequent to this meeting, with the data available with us and with an eye on as wide a representation as possible, we had organized a meeting of a small group to discuss the next course of action. This meeting took place at the same venue on Oct 21, 2001. A total of 21 Alumni attended this meeting.

Meanwhile, Mr. Vasagam, citing personal reasons, indicated his inability to assume the leadership of the Chennai Chapter.

Therefore, at this meeting, we had to find/ elect a new Chairman. Also to get a good start, it was suggested the all other positions in the Executive Committee should also be filled.

Consequently, we had two tasks on our Agenda on Oct 21, - Future Plans and Elections.

ELECTIONS: Dr. Velusami, Principal of the Jerusalem College Of Engineering was the Election Officer. All positions were elected unanimously.

Mr. Subbaiah and Mr. Aarul Aaron were elected as elected Chairman and Jt.Secretary respectively.

Mr. Iyamperumal, Mr. M Saravanan, Mr. MP Ramasamy, Mr. Maria Joseph and Mr. Mukumdan, were elected as EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEMBERS.

In addition to the above, the Executive Council can (and will) co-op additional members from time-to-time. This will enable the Chapter to taps on the extensive base available to it and also involve more Alumni in the organization of the Chapter.

DISCUSSION ON FUTURE PLANS / ACTIVITIES: The members discussed potential plans / activities for the club. Members shared their experiences of past activities of the chapter:

1. GRD Trophy for Debate - amongst Engg Colleges
2. Executive Council meeting every month
3. General Body meeting every alternate month (lecture + dinner)
4. GRD Talent Test for school children
5. 3 day activity filled AGM
6. Talent contest for alumni children at the AGM
7. Publication of souvenir / address book of alumni.
8. Publication of a newsletter.
9. Connect with the 'highly active' 1980 batch.

Various potential activities / plans fore the immediate future were also discussed:

1. Formation of an e-Group.
2. Publication of a periodic Newsletter (consider sponsorships)
3. Take over and 'operationalise' the Alumni flat at Saidapet.
4. Consider employing a clerk to man the Office.
5. Seek seed money from the Parent Chapter.
6. Introduce managerial processes in the chapter activities (make less personalized).
7. Formation of an Alumni 'Tech Music"
8. Various sports activities.
9. Network and share information with other Chapters also.

Friends, the next meeting of all (or at least, as many as) Alumni residing in Chennai are planned for November. We will revert to you with all details soon.
